IMMATERIAL - Latest Entries 5

UWA's IMMATERIAL show is open to all artists. Entries are due 31 July. For complete details, see our Call for Entries.

Here are the latest entries. We have had a remarkable number of entries from the Iberian Peninsula.

A brilliant photographic artist from Spain, Awesome Fallen presents "Thoughts."

Also from Madrid, our old friend HOLALA Alter has made a particle creation titled "Huntress Diana."

New to UWA, Barret Darkfold from Catalonia has created a very clever kinetic figure with "Abstract Dance."

Italian artist Slatan Dryke gives us an amorphous work of shifting colors with "Diaphanous."

We have had two machinima entries for IMMATERIAL:

Hypatia Pickens is a scholar, teacher, artist, and machinimatographer who has produced several amazing films based on Middle English texts. "The Spoils of Annwn" is based on a medieval Welsh poem and is filmed in a sim created as a 3D interpretation that visitors can actually explore.

SaveMe Oh and Glasz Decuir have collaborated on an interesting interpretation of John Cage's minimalist composition 4'33".   The piece seems to parallel the early 20th century Russian Suprematist artist Kazimir Malevich's "Black Square," which in turn suggests a blank television screen. The machinima is titled "When Malevich had a TV.

IMMATERIAL - Latest Entries 4

UWA's IMMATERIAL show is open to all artists. Entries are due 31 July. For complete details, see our Call for Entries.

With only one week left to enter, the IMMATERIAL show is already one of our best in terms of quality and variety. Here are the latest.

Perennial favorite Corcosman Voom shows us a beautiful shifting white object. It is inspired by a poem by Laura Riding ("The Quids") and is titled "Monoton" from that poem.

Secret Rage has made a life size paperweight called "Inconsequentia."

Elle Thorkveld gives us a set of boxes with shifting textures in "Kinetic Hues."

Myra Wildmist has created a sort of immersive zoetrope with projected light and shadows in "Dance."

And since IMMATERIAL is an open exhibition and not a competition, I decided it was not a conflict of interest to add an entry of my own. It's actually a decentralized set of abstract prim figures in several locations in the gallery called "Thinking Of You." Some are connected by particle arrows that arc across the gallery space. The idea is to show figures in various groupings, but whose individual thoughts are about someone who is elsewhere.

IMMATERIAL - Latest Entries 3

UWA's IMMATERIAL show is open to all artists. Entries are due 31 July. For complete details, see our Call for Entries.

We continue to get a steady stream of amazing new entries from a remarkably diverse demographic. Our first 14 entries are by artists from 13 different countries!

One of my all time favorite artist/collaborations is the team of Takni and Misio2. They always come up with something unusual and engaging. Takni's scripting never fails to impress, both technically and creatively. Their entry for IMMATERIAL is called "Pistons Soup." It's quite large, so you'll need to TP up to it from the gallery.

Ferdia Glenfadden has a personal piece with animated textures called "What I Barely Recall from my Childhood"

Almut Brunswick plays with scripted prims in "Behind the Canvas."

Dusty Canning returns with a highly interactive carnival ride titled "Thoroughly Irrelevant" (which it's not).

My friend Silas Merlin surprised me (and himself a bit, I think) with one of his latest experiments in 3D modeling, "Guardian Angels."

Another returning artist is Krystali Rabeni, who won a special UWA prize in the recent Pursue Impossible show. Her entry this time is "If Wishes Were Kisses."

Our latest entries include two remarkable 3D installations:

Moewe Winkler uses projections to give us one of the most convincing mirror effects I've ever seen.

More to come soon!

IMMATERIAL - First Entries Arriving

We have already our first six entries for the UWA "IMMATERIAL" show, with many more promised to come! UWA's IMMATERIAL show is open to all artists. Entries are due 31 July. For complete details, see our Call for Entries.

In 3D art we have the return of a couple of artists we haven't seen in some time at UWA.

Brazilian artist Theda Tammas provides a personal interpretation of "Immaterial" as an emotional response with "E T H E R E A L."

French artist Rosie Dimanovic's-"Reflect the Love" is a surreal scene.

One of our perennial favorite Australian artists is Carmsie Melodie. This time she gives us an interpretation of a classic story in "Vanity: an enemy of dignity."

American 2D Artist Ronin1 Shippe delights once again with an interactive cube, including a pink elephant with a martini.

Dutch artist Yoon (Toyono) has given us a 2D image created in SL with projected light and no post-processing. It's titled "The Dark Queen."

And finally, Scarlett (Doasilike) from Argentina has composed an image with figures, light, and shadows titled "Angels are Everywhere."
